In the age of content, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Everything around you is a reminder that you too must produce 24/7. Perhaps it’s true, if you want to produce content.
But I don’t think you want to. Who does?
I think you want to make art.
We’re talking about two different games here. Before it gets out of hand, let’s not make any judgement of value. Everything in life serves a purpose. Whether it’s art, content, winter, or spaghetti.
But if you indeed want to make art, you have all the time in the world. Sit still for a while. I mean, try and sit still for a while. Harder than it looks, innit?
Listen to what’s going on inside. Be quiet, and listen to your feelings, to your thoughts. Feel the quiver of an idea rushing through your very flesh.
What does it say? It doesn’t have to say anything. That’s the beauty of it. It doesn’t need to. The world will go on just fine if you keep your lips shut tight.
But if you feel something deep down, screaming to come out, get to work. Grab your shovel of choice, a pencil, a pick, whatever tool you use, and start digging. Extracting the idea.
Transfer it. Convert it. Translate it. Into something tangible. A song, a painting, an essay, a short movie, a poem, a picture. The format doesn’t matter.
Translate it as best as you can, so that you can share it with the world.
But remember, only start digging if you have something to say. If you don’t, say nothing. It’s fine. The world doesn’t need more empty words, empty notes, empty pictures.
We’re still in the depth of winter. A season of rest. Admire the passing of time. The short minutes of sunlight we get every single day. Rest, regroup, recharge. The time for action is coming, don’t you worry. Spring always returns. And you’ll need to be ready to bolt. Ready for action.
The longest month of the year is over. Now, there’s only a few more weeks to enjoy this slow pace before it all goes berserk again. Breathe. There aren’t many sure things in life, but here’s one of them:
Spring always returns.
But then again, what do I know...

By day, I run a song making shop called Rosemary Transduction. I work with artists of all shapes and sizes to craft tunes that make their listeners fall in love with them.

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
